Brown Julie are native to Lake Tanganyika in Africa. Female Brown Julie are larger than males and can lay up to a hundred eggs at a time which they deposit on the walls or roofs of caves. Like all cichlids, female and male Brown Julie have spiny rays along their fins to protect against predators. Although they get along with other cichlids, Brown Julie are aggressive towards those of the same species.
