Lake Bermin Fish

Lake Bermin Tilapia

This critically endangered cichlid species is endemic to Lake Bermin. It is found in the deepest parts of the lake and apparently adapted for life in lower oxygen waters with a higher level of hemoglobin in its blood.
Picture
It is threatened by high pollution and sedimentation from human activities and potentially also by large emissions of carbon dioxide from the lake's bottom.

Their striking white lower lip is a part of their natural coloration.
