Lapradei Bichir

The Lapradei Bichir is found in the Nile and other African rivers. These bichirs are relatively larger than other fish in their family can grow to be over 2 feet long. The Lapradei Bichir also have very prominent external nostrils; they use their sense of smell to compensate for their poor eyesight.

e Polypterus Genus have been linked to a very ancient species dating back to the Triassic Period - more than 200 million years ago! Because of this, they are sometimes referred to as the most primitive fish alive today.
